Synchrotron ALBA becomes a member of SECPhO

We are pleased to introduce our new member, ALBA Synchrotron. The ALBA Synchrotron is a third-generation scientific infrastructure located in Cerdanyola del Valles (Barcelona) and is the most important one in the Mediterranean zone.

This great scientific infrastructure generates 5,000 hours of radiation annually and is available to provide service to more than 1,000 researchers from academia and industry each year. Since 2012 the synchrotron accommodates users from Spanish official institutions (75%) and other countries (25%).

Currently, ALBA has seven operating lines of Phase I radiation, comprising both soft X-rays and hard X-rays, which are primarily designed for the biosciences, condensed matter (nanoscience and magnetic and electronic properties) and for material sciences. Two lines of Phase II radiation (infrared microspectroscopy and photoemission of low energy and high angular resolution for complex materials) are under construction currently.

ALBA is managed by the Consortium of the Construction, Equipment and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Laboratory (CELLS) and co-funded equally by the Spanish and Catalan administration.
