Behind this commitment to quality stands an equally important commitment to research. Hamamatsu is known for its research into both the basic and applied aspects of the science of light. Working in our labs and through collaborative partnerships with a variety of research organizations, Hamamatsu sees light and its research not only as a springboard for new knowledge and technologies but for the improvement of life itself. This philosophical commitment to research is backed by a strong financial commitment. Over a five year period the company’s overal ratio of R&D expenses to net sales averaged 13%.
Products
X-RAY
More and more factories and research labs, faced with ever stricter demands for quality and safety in all types of food and industrial products, are finding that non-contact, non-destructive X-ray inspection is extremely effective in upgrading quality and safety since it detects tiny product structural flaws and foreign object contamination – with no product damage whatsoever.
Hamamatsu Photonics has a full line of X-ray sources and devices for X-ray inspection of electronic components, industrial products as well as for a wide range of fields to meet needs in food processing and security.
Hamamatsu Photonics deliver its sources and detectors / cameras to OEM manufacturers or integrators that have possibility to solve end customer problem.
UV LIGHT SOURCES
Hamamatsu Photonics combines many different technologies in a wide range of UV radiation products. Among those products there are UV-LED emitters for glue or ink drying with different configurations and powers, all of them cooled by air. Other products are based on vaccum tubes to go deeper in the UV, like excimer lamps, Deuterium lamps. The classical products based on Xenon (continous or flash) and HgXe with multi-fiber and optics are also available.
And if you want to be sure on the radiated power of the unit, you can select among our UV checker and UV detector modules.
MEMS – Minispectrometer
The Hamamatsu Photonics’ MEMS-FPI spectrum sensor features an ultracompact Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and an NIR-sensitive InGaAs PIN photodiode. The Fabry-Perot interferometer that acts as a tunable filter has been drastically reduced in size using MEMS technology.
The MEMS-FPI spectrum sensor can be used for in situ spectrum analysis of:
• Gases (environmental measurements)
• Food and beverages
• Agricultural products
• Petrochemical products
Features
• MEMS-FPI tunable filter with InGaAs PIN photodiode
• Spectral response range: 1550-1850 nm
• Spectral resolution: 20 nm FWHM (max.)
• Hermetically sealed TO-5 metal can package
MWIR detectors and emitters
Hamamatsu Photonics strictly follows ROHS regulation so the discontinuation of detectors including Hg, Cd, Pb,… is done. As a substitute we create a brand new range of detectors based on InAsSb that can cover the range from 1 to 10um with an excellent sensitivity and no need of external bias. Furthermore, it is very easy to connect to an amplifier due to the high shunt resistance, and its small SMD package allows it to be used in very compact instruments.
Due to the high potential in agriculture, medical and industrial markets, we started to add MWIR LEDs starting with the 4.3um wavelength for CO2 detection. Other wavelengths are coming soon.
MEMS Mirrors
Hamamatsu Photonics has developed ultra-compact, high-precision MEMS mirrors which are expected to spur new developments in automotive head-up displays, microprojectors, and other applications. The new device is an electromagnetically-activated laser scanning MEMS mirror that is available in one-dimensional and two-dimensional formats.
Smart Sensor
The Hamamatsu Photonics smart sensor P12347-01CT contains 4 functions in 1 product, which saves space and cost by smart integration. Typically these functions are used in all kind of consumer devices such as tablets, smart phones, TVs, multimedia screens in cars, and automatic switches. Hamamatsu Photonics also allows the possibility of customization for certain quantities.
