Job purpose
The R&D System Engineer will carry out development work in the area of LIDAR systems, including component simulation and measurement, LIDAR system characterization, technical demonstrations, and production of technical documentation.
Duties and responsibilities
R&D Tasks
• Setup and optimize LIDAR imaging systems through an optical simulator and by means of the optics laboratory
• Design and realization of optical setups for quality control.
• Set up device alignment, encapsulation and packaging processes.
• Participate in the design of different LIDAR system architectures
• Generate technical documentation according to company procedures.
• Define and communicate with other R&D areas for reliable system integration.
Quality Activities
• Coordination with Quality department for R&D procedures.
• Coordinate with engineering department for transfer to manufacturing.
• Design and realization of optical setups for quality control
• Internal consulting in documentation, QC, customer support, regulatory approvals.
Qualifications
Education and experience
• Degree in Optical/Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent (Master Degree).
• Fluent in English (ALTE-4/C1 or better).
• Ph.D. or +5yr. research experience will be valued.
Required Skills
• Hands-on lab experience in optics laboratory, including measurement, testing and characterization methods.
• Experience with fiber optic technology, integrated optics, micro-optics, optical encapsulation and device packaging.
• Familiar with free-space optics design software (e.g. Zemax or CODE V).
• Knowledge of electronic instrumentation equipment and techniques.
• Competent in instrumentation control and prototyping programming languages (LabView, Python, etc.)
• Experience with optical metrology technology and/or depth-resolved optical imaging systems: e.g. photogrammetry, laser tracking, LIDAR.
• Knowledge of ISO quality standards and familiarity with quality management.
• Good analytical skills.
